Lake Eyre
Located just 90km of Marree, Lake Eyre is the largest salt-water lake across Australia, covering an incredible 9,500 square kilometers when full. The North Lake alone is larger in size than Belgium!
In the summer months, heavy tropical rain in the north of Australia snakes its way down to Lake Eyre through an elaborate system of channels and rivers, creating a diverse range of life in a usually dry and barren environment. Flocks of birds turn Lake Eyre's flooding waters into their home during the summer, nesting on the lakes in anticipation of water.
While the lake usually reaches its peak during these summer months, this year's summer wet season will be Lake Eyre's biggest yet, resulting in a spectacular flood viewable only with our Lake Eyre flights. Don't miss out on this unique natural wonder and book your Lake Eyre flights today!
Cooper Creek
As the Thompson and Barcoo rivers west of the Great Dividing Range join together into Cooper Creek, the river system splits into an incredible amount of braided channels. This year abnormal northern rainfalls have been high enough to flood the creek, resulting in a unique and rare event where Cooper Creek flows directly into Lake Eyre.
The almost 300,000 square kilometer Cooper Creek contributes to almost a quarter of the Lake Eyre Basin and spreads across Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales. Explore the rich history of Cooper Creek with one of our Lake Eyre flights.
