Tiger Moth
The Tiger Moth is an iconic aircraft of the 1930s. The de Havilland DH-82A Tiger Moth was designed by Geoffrey de Havilland of the de Havilland Aircraft Company. The maiden flight took place on 26th October 1931 and was introduced into operational service in 1932 as a primary military trainer. Production ceased in 1944, but the Tiger Moth is still in use today, mostly as a recreational aircraft for sight-seers and aviation enthusiasts who want to enjoy the traditional bi-plane experience.
Our Tiger Moth is registered VH-UVB and was built in 1940. It is a well maintained and beautiful Tiger Moth of the era. VH-UVB was built by the de Havilland Aircraft Company in Mascot, NSW. It originally entered service in the RAAF as model A17-94 in 1940 and was retired from the Air Force in 1954. The aircraft was stored in Tully, QLD until the early 1970s where it was recovered and restored over many years. It was returned to service on 21st June 1990 in Brisbane. The aircraft is now located with Aus Air Services at Tooradin Airfield, Melbourne.
